Aquinas' bid for state

Maybe this can be a thing for the Aquinas High School track and field team.
You win it all one year. We’ll win it all the next.
If that’s the case, it’s the boys turn.
Two years ago, the Aquinas boys won a Division 2 state track and field championship.
Last year, it was the girls turn behind a senior dominated performance.
Now up, the boys again? Perhaps, depending on how they do at Thursday’s Division 2 sectional at Boscobel High School.
The Blugolds will be led by a couple Michaels, as in Michael Christianson on the track and Michael Conway in the field events.
Conway, a senior, has the top seed in the long jump (22-feet, ¾-inch) and the second seed in the triple jump (43-2½).
Meanwhile, Christianson, also a senior, is seeded second in the 1,600-meter run (4:39.21) and sixth in the 3,200 (10:19.91).
Last year at state, Christianson took fourth in both the 1,600 (4:18.94) and 3,200 (9:28.28). Conway took third in the triple jump (44-6) and sixth in the long jump (21-6½).
While competing against the field to get to state, Conway will also be fighting teammate Robert Wettstein in the long jump. The junior is seeded second (21-9¾).
The Aquinas boys also have solid seeds in two relays. Wettstein leads an 800 relay team made up also of Ben Bettis, Collin Meyer and Reggie Rabb. They have the third seed with at 1:31.59. The 400 relay – same guys, different order – has the fourth seed (43.97).
REST OF THE FIELD
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau looks to go 1 and 2 in the discus led by senior Brad Walski. He’s the top seed in both with a 167-4 discus and a 55-9½ shot. Teammate Mitch Scherr is right behind with the two seed in shot (51-3¾) and the three seed in the discus (153-3).
Teammate Brandyn Domnie has the fourth seed in the 200 (23.37).
Walski won a state title in shot last year (55-11¼) and took sixth in the discus (156-2).
Viroqua’s Josh Stohr is looking strong to get to state in both hurdles events. He holds the top seed in both with a 15.52-second time in the 110 and a 39.98 in the 300.
Teammate Alex Maldonado has the fourth seed in both the 200 (23.3) and 400 (51.01).
West Salem’s Mitchell Lehmann has the top seed in the 400 (50.55), while teammates Austin Pasch and Brett Thompson are both seeded third in the 1,600 (4:39.6) and high jump (6-foot), respectively.
Arcadia’s Bryce Koval has the third seed in the 400 (50.84) and teammate Dalton Jeske is seeded fourth in shot (50-1).
PARRISH LEADS VIROQUA GIRLS
Jalli Parrish will be one tired girl after Thursday’s meet. She’s the top seed in both the 100 (12.76) and 400 (58.77), and the No. 2 seed in the 200 (26.29).
Teammate Lyssa Veres has the top seed in the 100 hurdles (15.53) and the third seed in the pole vault (10-6) – two events she qualified for last year, but did not make finals.
REST OF THE FIELD
Pamela Fuschel has the top seed in the 300 hurdles for Aquinas (47.51). Teammate Ivy Gierszewski has the two seed in the long jump (16-8¾). She took eighth last year at state.
G-E-T’s Annalese Lamke is the top seed in the shot put (38-8¼), where she placed fifth last year at state (37-7¼). She also has the fourth seed in disc (115-4). Teammate Meg Sill is the two seed heading into the triple jump (34-1½).
West Salem’s Anna Lattos is seed fourth in the shot (35-3¼), while Westby’s Allyson Daines is seeded second in the 800 (2:21.68).
