Watch Eriah Hayes’ first-career NHL goal here.

It took all of 36 seconds into the third period for the rookie, Hayes.

The 2007 La Crescent High School graduate nailed a 13-foot wrister from teammates Patrick Marleau and Tommy Wingels to pull San Jose within 2-1 of Calgary on Thursday night. Unfortunately, Calgary won the game 4-1. This is his 13th game with the team.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Hayes has been on the Sharks since Jan. 5, when he made his first NHL appearance against the defending champion Blackhawks in Chicago. Hayes signed a two-year deal with San Jose last year and had been playing for the Worcester (Mass.) Sharks before the call up.

The Coulee Region’s all-time leading scorer went from the Lancers to the NAHL’s Topeka Roadrunners to Division 1 Minnesota State. While there he was invited to pro prospect camps after his junior and senior years, before signing with San Jose.

Despite the loss, the Sharks (34-15) are second in the Pacific Division with 74 points. Anaheim (55-39-11) leads the division with 83. Calgary (20-27) sits near the bottom with 27 points.
