State-ranked Caledonia, R-P head playoffs tonight in Minnesota
The second round of the Minnesota High School League basketball tournament continues tonight at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, Minn.
At 6 p.m., top-seeded and Class A’s fifth-ranked team, Rushford-Peterson (26-1) takes on fourth-seeded Lanesboro (17-9) in the Civic Auditorium in Section 1A. Following that, No. 2 seed Spring Grove (24-3) takes on sixth-seeded Mabel-Canton (15-11).
In the Civic Arena at 6 p.m. the Section 2A games feature top-seeded Caledonia (24-2), ranked No. 8 in Class AA, against fourth-seeded Lake City. Following that No. 2 Plainview-Elgin-Millville (21-6) plays No. 3 Chatfield (19-6).
R-P destroyed Lanesboro 76-38 on Feb. 10. The Trojans’ only loss this year is to Caledonia, which came by a 60-49 score on Jan. 24. On. Dec. 3, R-P defeated Caledonia 73-66.
The Warriors only other loss came to P-E-M by a 74-57 score on Feb. 11.
Spring Grove swept the regular-season series over M-C by scores of 68-46 and 81-42.
The winners of each section will take on each other Saturday in the Civic Auditorium. The Section 1A semifinal will be at 11 a.m., while the Section 1AA semis will take place at 5 p.m.
