Loggers win marathon game

It all came down to a wild pitch.

Four hours and 28 minutes, and 15 innings later, the La Crosse Loggers defeated the Wisconsin Woodchucks 3-2 at Copeland Park when Jerrod Bravo scored on a wild pitch.

For the second day in a row, the Loggers (2-0) pounded out double-digit singles – 14 on Wednesday and 12 on Tuesday.

Wednesday’s game, in front of 2,586 fans, featured 26 hits – all singles by both teams – 24 strikeouts, 11 walks and nine wild pitches between nine pitchers.

It was all decided when the Loggers led off the 15th with a walk, single and intentional walk to load the bases, before the wild pitch led to the winning run.

La Crosse fell behind 2-0 early, before trying things up for the marathon thanks to Sulliam Rios Reyes.

The shortstop had RBI singles in both the fifth and seventh innings for the Loggers, who head to Madison for two games before returning home Saturday and Sunday.

Rios Reyes was 4-for-7, while Bravo was 3-for-6 in the win. Teammates Mike Nadratowski and Taylor Kohlwey both had two hits, as well.

Brian Keller went seven strong innings for La Crosse, striking out five, walking just one and giving up one earned run on nine hits. The Loggers used four pitchers, and it was Jake Light that got the win, pitching the final inning.
