King hasn't played much of late, as Badgers take on Maryland tonight

Coming off three losses in its last four games, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team is at Maryland tonight.

Both teams are just outside the AP Top 25 rankings. Wisconsin is 11-5, while the Terrapins are 14-3. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m.

La Crosse native Kobe King has had an up and down season — and mostly down of late, when it comes to playing time for the Badgers.

King hasn’t played more than 16 minutes in any of the last four games. At one point this season, he was the sixth man, playing the most minutes off the bench.

His best games, however, have come in blowout wins. He scored a career-high 14 in the 78-58 win over Oklahoma. And he had back-to-back 10-point games in easy wins over Savannah State and Grambling State.

King is, of course, just a redshirt freshman. He played 10 games last season, before fracturing the patella on his left knee, allowing him to take a medical redshirt season.

Right now, he’s averaging 5.2 points in 19 minutes a game — almost exactly the same numbers he put up last season. He is shooting a tad worse, however, at 46 percent from the field and just 33 percent from beyond the arc.

After tonight’s game, Wisconsin looks ahead to a Saturday matchup at the Kohl Center against No. 2 Michigan, which is 17-0.
