Badgers QB Hornibrook leaving program, "beyond excited for this opportunity."

Quarterback Alex Hornibrook is leaving the the University of Wisconsin football team, coach Paul Chryst announced in a statement today.

In a statement on Twitter, Hornibrook said, in part, he was “beyond excited for this opportunity.”

News broke Wednesday that Hornibrook entered the NCAA transfer portal. Soon after, Wisconsin announced he was leaving.

It all comes after the Badgers signed Graham Mertz the No. 1 quarterback in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Hornibrook started for the past three seasons for the Badgers and was 26-6 overall.

The lefty struggled in 2018, however, throwing 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
