Cobb to Dallas, Clay to LA

After losing longtime fan favorite Jordy Nelson last year, the Green Bay Packers said goodbye to two more Tuesday.

After 10 years in Green Bay, Clay Matthews signed with the L.A. Rams and could make as much as $16.75 million over two years.

Randall Cobb, after eight seasons with the Packers, signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Dallas.

Matthews broke into the league with a 10-sack rookie season, before helping Green Bay win a Super Bowl with a career high 13.5 sacks back in 2010. He was named the Pro Football Writers of America’s Defensive Player of the Year that season.

The 32-year-old (33 in May) is the Packers’ all-time leader with 83.5 sacks (143 games). Number two on that list is KJB, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila with 74.5 sacks over eight season.

Last year, Matthews had a career low 3.5 sacks but still made $10.4 million.

Matthews, the 26th pick in 2009, went to high school just 15 minutes from the Rams current practice facility in Thousand Oaks, Calif, and was a walk-on at USC.

As for Cobb, he ends his Packers career sixth all-time in receptions and 11th in yards. No. 1 on both those lists is Donald Driver.

The 28-year-old Cobb’s best season came in 2014, when he had 91 catches, 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The 62nd (second-round) pick in the 2011 never had double-digit touchdowns in any other season. He had a career low 383 yards in nine games last season.

Cobb will help replace Cole Beasley, who signed a four-year, $29-million deal with the Bills. Opposite of him will by Tavon Austin, along with recently un-retired Jason Witten at tight end.
