Two La Crosse Loggers selected in first, second rounds of MLB draft
Two former La Crosse Loggers were picked early in the MLB draft on Monday.
Catcher Korey Lee, who spent the last two season with the Loggers, was selected 32nd overall by the Houston Astros.
And, with the third pick of the second round — 43rd overall — the Boston Red Sox picked shortstop Cameron Cannon.
Last season with the Loggers, Lee hit .283 with nine home runs and 38 RBI.
Lee just wrapped up his junior season for Cal. There, he hit .338 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI for the Golden Bears, who went 32-20.
Oddly enough, Lee wasn’t even the highest draft pick from Cal. Teammate Andrew Vaughn became the highest drafted player in program history when the Chicago White Sox took him No. 3 overall.
As for Cannon, he played 29 games for the Loggers in 2017, hitting .276 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI.
Cannon just finished his junior season at Arizona, leading the team with a .397 batting average. He had eight home runs, scored 71 runs, added 29 doubles and 56 RBI for the Wildcats (32-24).
