La Crosse's Kobe King quiet for Badgers in blowout win over Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — It was another quiet night for La Crosse native Kobe King in a blowout by the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team.

The No. 22 Badgers beat Penn State 71-52 on the road Sunday.

King was 2-for-3 from the field, scoring four points to go with two rebounds and two steals in 16 minutes off the bench.

The 2017 Central High School graduate is averaging just 14 minutes his last three games and 18.6 for the season.

King is shooting 50 percent from the field, at 5.6 points per game so far this season.

King fractured his patella on his left knee 10 games into last season, allowing him to be a medical redshirt freshman this season.

In the win, senior Ethan Happ had 22 points and eight rebounds for Wisconsin, which had lost two of three.

The Badgers held Penn State’s talented starting guards to 22 points combined. The Nittany Lions (7-8, 0-4) shot just 20 of 53 from the field field and committed 16 turnovers.

The struggling Nittany Lions played without coach Patrick Chambers, who was suspended for the game after shoving Penn State freshman guard Myles Dread during a timeout Thursday in a loss at Michigan. Chambers apologized and said he was just trying to get the best out of Dread.

Brad Davison added 14 points and Nate Reuvers scored 11 for Wisconsin (11-4, 3-1 Big Ten), which beat the Nittany Lions for the 11th consecutive time.

The Badgers were coming off seven-point losses to Western Kentucky and Minnesota. They now head into games against Purdue (Friday), Maryland and No. 2 Michigan.
