Fruechte leaves for UNI; UWL football in search for new offensive coordinator

With spring football just days from getting underway, the UW-La Crosse football team is looking for a new offensive coordinator.

Issac Fruechte, who was hired to the position in January, accepted a new role with the University of Northern Iowa football team, as wide receivers coach.

Fruechte took over as the UW-L interim coordinator in Week 4 last season.

The Eagles averaged 32 points per game and were third in the conference for total offense, going 5-2 in the final 7 weeks.

UW-L coach Mike Schmidt said in a statement:

“I am thrilled for this opportunity for coach Fruechte and his wife, as is our team. We’re sad to see him go so soon but also grateful for the work he did and the impact he made here at UWL. We will obviously move as fast as possible to name a replacement.”
