The gunslinger is heading back to Lambeau Field.
Brett Favre wrote on his website, he’s coming ‘home.’
“I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey.”
The Green Bay Packers are expected to announce the same news, along with Favre’s induction into the Packers Hall of Fame, during a press conference at 1:30 p.m. Monday that can be streamed live.
It’s welcomed news for true Packers fans, though a lot of people have come to dislike Favre after the odd departure from Green Bay … and maybe his cellphone habits to a New York Jets cheerleader.
The real question, what will the fans’ reaction be when he heads onto the field? The first time it happened without a Packers jersey on, it wasn’t good.
That, however, won’t happen when his number is retired. It will be an incredible atmosphere at Lambeau Field. The crowd may never stop cheering.
Sure, how Favre left Green Bay was weird, but that doesn’t negate the fact that he was the best quarterback to put on the green and gold. Fans should remember what he did on the field, because that’s what this Hall of Fame induction and jersey retirement is all about.
Favre had an amazing career that won’t be repeated. There will be no quarterback like him again.
During his career, Favre started an NFL record 297 consecutive games (253 with Green Bay from 1992-2007).
Favre holds NFL records for passing yards (71,838), touchdown passes (508), pass attempts (10,169), completions (6,300). He also has the records for most interceptions (336), most times sacked (525) and the most fumbles (166).
