Fresh off huge win, top-ranked Aquinas, of course, gets top seed in playoffs

After a big win in Iowa against a team with a UConn recruit, undefeated and top-ranked Aquinas High School girls basketball team is now the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.
In the second round of the WIAA Division 4 tournament on Feb. 23, the Blugolds (20-0) will open against the winner of Necedah-Lancaster, which takes place Feb. 20.
Saturday, Aquinas, winners of 42 consecutive regular-season games, won 67-65 over Dowling Catholic, the third-ranked team in Iowa’s Class 5A.
Dowling (18-3) is led by Caitlin Clark, who scored 29 points in the contest — missing a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win it. Clark, who’s also being recruited by Notre Dame, is ESPN’s top-ranked player for the Class of 2020.
In Division 2, sixth-ranked Onalaska (17-3) is also seeded No. 1 and will face the New Richmond-River Falls winner.
Logan (2-19), seeded 11th, will head to No. 6 Central (8-13) to open the tournament, while No. 4 Holmen (12-9) will host No. 5 Tomah (13-8). Both teams received first-round byes and will face each other in Round 2 on Feb. 23.
